The article deals with complex time inscribed in the architectural project of Siponto's Basilica. It analyzes the lifespan, from its construction in Paleochristian era until the collapse, that leads to its state of ruin. It investigates the restoration proposals identifying, in the choice of incorporating the ruin, the solution for the elusiveness of the essence of the remains. The work, commissioned to the artist Edoardo Tresoldi, exteriorizes the role of metaphor of absence” of the rest, and in the meantime it reveals the “raison d'être” of the ruin in its actual presence.
