Abstract

This article examines the complex temporality of the work of art in relation to Jacques Lacan’s theory of phantasy. To this end, temporal models alternative to that of linear chronology are investigated: on the one hand Lacan’s notion of phantasy and its relation to the wrinkled temporality of the subject; on the other Aby Warburg’s model of Nachleben in which images embody the discontinuous and impure time of the survivals.
